New Jerusalem Orchestra receives critical acclaim

More than a thousand people witnessed a unique musical experience this month in Israel, ‘Maqam Yerushalem’, a program performed by the New Jerusalem Orchestra, led by Omer Avital and Yair Harel. The evening included arrangements of songs expressing longing for Jerusalem written by members of the orchestra, as well as the world premiere of Avital’s new piece ‘Hazoreem Bedima’. The concert, featuring a rare summit meeting of top musicians and singers from the Jewish and Arab scenes in Israel such as Haya Samir, Lubnah Salame and Abate Brihun, was hailed by the press as ‘the closest thing to latter days, musically and perhaps politically’.
